Funding opportunities
- The IU Research Equipment Fund is open and provides support for purchasing new research or creative activity equipment, for repairing or upgrading existing equipment and for datasets at IU university-wide that are strategically necessary to support high-quality research, attract and retain research faculty and generate external funding for IU Research. All requests should be more than $5,000 (after the required cost-share is secured). There is no maximum request. Deadline: Open.
- The Pew Charitable Trusts - Pew Biomedical Scholars program provides funding to young investigators in science relevant to the advancement of human health. The program makes grants to selected academic institutions to support the independent research of individuals who are in their first few years of their appointment at the assistant professor level. Awardees receive $300,000 ($75,000 a year over a four year period). You must be logged into InfoReady to apply. Deadline: Apr. 19.
- The Brain Research Foundation- Scientific Innovation Award provides funding for innovative science in both basic and clinical neuroscience. This funding mechanism is designed to support creative, exploratory, cutting edge research in well-established research laboratories, under the direction of established investigators. Awardees receive $150,000 for a two year grant period. You must be logged into InfoReady to apply. Deadline: Apr. 26.
- The Amazon AI for Information Security award program is seeking applications that utilize cutting-edge machine learning algorithms to improve the security posture of AWS accounts. They are looking to fund machine learning research that targets possible solutions for the most challenging problems in information security, including topics such as cloud security improvement, Generative AI & foundation models, machine learning and others. Awardees receive up to $80,000 for one year with additional AWS credits up to $40,000. Deadline: May 7.
- The Amazon Sustainability Research Awards program invites proposals for innovative projects that merge machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques with life cycle assessment methodologies to support carbon abatement strategies. This call seeks to fund projects that specifically address the challenges associated with generating consistent, transparent and accurate carbon measurements within the manufacturing, transportation and agricultural sectors. Awardees receive $50,000 to $100,000 for one year, with additional AWS credits of up to $40,000. Deadline: May 7.
- The Indiana CTSI Trailblazer Awards support collaborative, community-engaged research projects focused on topics that have potential to improve health, examine social determinants of health (SDoH) or enhance health equity. These projects may span various sectors and do not necessarily have to be clinical in nature. Awardees receive up to $25,000 over two years.Deadline: June 1.
- The Arnold Ventures Support for Causal Studies to Evaluate Social Programs and Policies is accepting letters of interest for their Building Evidence program, which aims to support research focusing on identifying and evaluating effective programs, policies or practices in the areas of higher education, infrastructure, contraceptive choice and access and public finance. Awardees receive between $350,000 to $500,000 over three years. Deadline: June 1.
- The 2025-26 Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program competition is now open, offering over 400 awards in more than 135 countries for U.S. citizens to teach, conduct research and carry out professional projects. Grant lengths vary and are specified in the award description. Grant benefits vary but generally include travel and living expenses for the awardee and accompanying dependents. Interested applicants are encouraged to confirm eligibility, then search awards to filter by region, discipline, length, etc., to find a project that aligns to your field and interest. Deadline: Sept. 16.
- The Center for the Study of Federalism – Research awards grants for original research and/or writing that advances thinking about federalism as a principle of American government, law or politics. Research should focus solely on U.S. federalism, but consideration will be given to comparative research in which U.S. federalism is a significant component and from which can be drawn a better understanding of U.S. federalism. Awardees receive up to $15,000. Deadline: Oct. 15.
- The Dana Foundation's Pilot Projects in Neuroscience & Society advances neuroscience that benefits society and reflects the aspirations of all people. They explore the connections between neuroscience and society's challenges and opportunities, working to maximize the potential of the field to do good. Applicants may request up to $150,000 in funding for projects over a period of up to 18 months. Deadline: Rolling.
- The IU Research and Creative Activity Conference Grants, sponsored by IU Research, provide IU faculty the opportunity to apply for matching funds to curate and host an innovative conference on an IU campus. The purpose is to convene scholars from other institutions around the country and the world with IU faculty and students to explore novel ideas and initiatives, expand scholarly networks and build new research and creative activity partnerships. Funding is up to $15,000. Deadline: Open.
