Blood test for depression, bipolar disorder offers promise of personalized treatment

An IU School of Medicine team has developed a blood test that distinguishes the severity of a patient's depression and their future risk of severe depression and bipolar disorder, opening the door to precise and personalized treatment.

Why some parents don't plan to vaccinate their children

New research by IU's Jessica Calarco and colleagues reveals mothers are significantly more likely to report planning not to vaccinate their children against COVID-19 and to oppose school-required virus immunizations.

Combating stigma about substance use disorder

Hundreds of people have taken IU online courses to learn about reducing stigma. The free courses were created by IU's Responding to the Addictions Crisis Grand Challenge and School of Nursing and made possible through a grant from the Commission for Higher Education of the State of Indiana, CARES Mental Health Programs.

Building national security

What do balloons have to do with national security? In the "Save the Republic" competition, students and scientists vie to design and command effective remote-controlled lighter-than-air vehicles. The event is a collaboration between IU, the Department of Defense, and other university partners. The next competition takes place April 12-16 at IU Bloomington.

Fossil plants found in volcanic ash in China have allowed an international research team, including an IU scientist, to reconstruct an extinct plant group, which represents a key innovation in land plant evolution.
