Indiana's History

IU project brings awareness to Arab Americans in Indianapolis and their impact on Indiana history. The research will soon be accessible for all Hoosiers when “Arab Indianapolis: A Hidden History” premieres June 16 on WFYI.

Funding opportunities and resources

  • IU's Responding to the Addictions Crisis Grand Challenge is offering a new funding opportunity for faculty studying racial and ethnic disparities that exist specific to substance use disorder. Deadline is June 13.
  • A working group from across the university has been tasked with providing recommendations towards an IU Research Data Commons, a collective recognition of the importance of a university-wide resource for discovering, sharing and accessing data resources across the IU community. Faculty are invited to take a short survey online.
  • Two types of travel grants—to attend a conference/workshop OR to conduct research or fieldwork—are available through the IU Presidential Arts and Humanities Program, which supports path-breaking work in arts and humanities areas. More information is available online, and proposals can be submitted online. Both have rolling deadlines.
  • Searching for external research funding? Find information and resources to help you locate relevant funding from external sources, including the Pivot funding search tool.
  • Need equipment, datasets or software to help conduct your research? IU researchers can search an online database to find university resources that are shareable for researchers. Laboratories and cores can also or submit their own tools and equipment to encourage broader use.
  • Information about private foundation and corporate funding opportunities is available through the Office of Foundation Relations and Office of Business Partnerships. Faculty interested in these opportunities can find more information online. 

Events

  • University Collections at McCalla is hosting Open Gallery Hours. The public can visit on Thursdays between noon and 7 p.m. through July and explore the latest exhibitions, try your hand at the giant ground sloth claw puzzle, relax in the Bettina Rheims reading space, or reminisce in the renovated McCalla halls in the historic McCalla building at 525 E 9th Street, Bloomington.
  • Join University Collections at McCalla at 6 p.m., June 16 for an afternoon of slowing down. Participants will closely examine one of three works from the Weaving Identities exhibition, with a guided reflection and discussion to follow. The event is sponsored by Bárbaro Martínez-Ruiz, Tanner-Opperman Chair of African Art History in Honor of Roy Sieber, and doctoral student Alexandra Nickolaou.
