Funding opportunities

• Applications for the Eastman Residency for the Arts and Humanities are now being accepted. This program supports all IU faculty in the arts and humanities by providing residencies from one to three weeks on the IU-owned Eastman property on Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts. IU faculty with a clearly defined research or creative project that would benefit from time away from campus are encouraged to apply. The residency supports individual faculty projects, small research team projects for four to five faculty, as well as cross-disciplinary team meetings or symposia of a humanistic or artistic nature. • OpenAI is partnering with Eric Schmidt and launching a $10M grants program to support technical research towards ensuring superhuman AI systems are aligned and safe. Awardees receive $100,000 to $2,000,000 for academic labs, nonprofits and individual researchers. Deadline: Feb. 18.
• The Kraft Heinz - Natural food preservation ingredients against molds and yeasts program is looking for natural ingredients and technologies that can replace artificial preservatives in foods to inhibit spoilage microorganisms like molds and yeasts including the acid-tolerant yeast Zygosaccharomyces bailii. Awardees receive a range from $25,000 to $100,000 for a 6-month project with the potential for expansion based on results and opportunities. Deadline: Feb. 29.
• The ICO GAP Fund was established to support short term projects that de-risk IU technologies and facilitate technology commercialization. To be eligible for the fund, the project must be based on a discovery that has been disclosed to IU Innovation and Commercialization Office. Awardees receive up to $25,000 per project. You must be logged into InfoReady to apply. Deadline: Apr. 2.
• The Dr. Ralph and Marian Falk Medical Research Trust-Falk Catalyst Awards program supports high-risk, high-reward projects that address critical scientific and therapeutic roadblocks. If successful, these projects will open new avenues for treating and curing disease. Awardees receive $350,000 seed funding over one to two years. You must be logged into InfoReady to apply. Deadline: Apr. 4.
• The Pew Charitable Trusts - Pew Biomedical Scholars program provides funding to young investigators in science relevant to the advancement of human health. The program makes grants to selected academic institutions to support the independent research of individuals who are in their first few years of their appointment at the assistant professor level. Awardees receive $300,000 ($75,000 a year over a four year period). You must be logged into InfoReady to apply.Deadline: Apr. 19.
• The Dana Foundation's Pilot Projects in Neuroscience & Society advances neuroscience that benefits society and reflects the aspirations of all people. They explore the connections between neuroscience and society's challenges and opportunities, working to maximize the potential of the field to do good. Applicants may request up to $150,000 in funding for projects over a period of up to 18 months. Deadline: Rolling.

Selected limited submission funding opportunities

The DOS U.S. Embassy Amman Public Affairs Section Annual Program Statement invites proposals from U.S. and Jordanian not-for-profit civil society organizations, think tanks, cultural and arts organizations, government institutions and academic institutions for programs that strengthen cultural ties between the U.S. and Jordan through cultural and exchange programming that highlights shared values and promotes bilateral cooperation. All programs must include an American cultural element, or connection with American expert/s, organization/s, or institution/s in a specific field that will promote increased understanding of U.S. policy and perspectives. Particular consideration will be given to programs with strategic and sustained activities for a duration of 12-18 months, as well as to applications that integrate multiple aspects of U.S. public diplomacy.

External Competition: External Deadline: 5/2/24
Award: $50,000 to $500,000
Limitation: One per IU.

The U.S. Embassy Yaoundé Public Diplomacy Section of the Department of State will accept Statements of Interest for consideration for projects proposed by U.S. and Cameroonian academic, cultural, educational and other non-profit organizations and/or individuals that promote U.S. values, increase understanding between U.S. and Cameroonian people and institutions and/or support U.S. Embassy goals of promoting government transparency and accountability, economic prosperity, peace and security, environmental sustainability and climate adaptation. All programs must include an element of American culture or society, or connection with American expert/s, organization/s or institution/s that will promote increased understanding of U.S. policy and perspectives.

Award: $5,000 to $25,000

Evaluation Consulting for Research Grants Available to Faculty

The Evaluation Consulting for Proposals (ECP) pilot program offered by the Center for Evaluation, Policy, & Research (CEPR) provides IU researchers with high-quality evaluation and/or research plans needed for competitive grant proposals. ECP expands CEPR’s capacity to help faculty develop evaluation or research plans that provide a decisive edge when competing for external funding. Support is requested online: https://cepr.indiana.edu/services/proposal-support. Faculty are advised to contact CEPR early. Services are provided at no cost to faculty members.
