I am very pleased to introduce this new edition of Research Impact that focuses on just some of the timely work of IU faculty, staff, and students to help our community detect, manage, and ultimately eradicate the threat of COVID-19.
This edition highlights just a few of the bold and creative efforts of IU’s world-class researchers to address not only the public health and scientific aspects of COVID-19, but also to inform policymakers, industry and community leaders, journalists, and the public about the broader social, economic, legal, technological, and cultural facets of the pandemic. You will read about some of our remarkable colleagues who are engaged in this important work and their many collaborative partnerships in this quest.
We are now only months into the university’s third century, and yet again, our actions are demonstrating the power of one of America’s leading research universities in the fight to defeat COVID-19 and its disruption of so many lives. This pandemic was not how any of us had planned to mark the university’s Bicentennial, but I cannot think of any better demonstration of our two-century commitment – as Indiana’s namesake university – to the health and wellness of Hoosiers and all of humankind than the creativity, determination, and impact reflected in the stories below.
I invite you to share more examples of IU researchers – and the many people who support them in their efforts to make a difference – so that we can feature them in future editions. You can send your examples to vpr@iu.edu. In the meantime, thank you for all that you are doing to protect yourselves, your families, and our state.
Yours sincerely,
Michael A. McRobbie
President
